What an AMC should actually cover
An annual maintenance contract is only worth something if you know what's inside it. Here's the checklist we use.
An AMC is easy to buy and easy to forget about — until a system fails at the worst possible moment. The value of a contract isn't the paper; it's the discipline behind it.
What good maintenance includes
Scheduled preventive visits, with documented checks of every device — not just a quick look at the monitor wall.
Storage verification: recording retention, drive health and overwrite behaviour actually checked, not assumed.
Connectivity checks: cables, switches and power — the parts of a system that fail silently and get blamed on cameras.
Cleanliness and physical condition: lenses, housings, vents and mounts degrade slowly; they should be caught before they fail.
A clear response path for faults, with defined response times and a single point of contact.
Reporting: a written record of what was checked and what was found, so you can see the system's health over time.
What to ask before signing
How many visits per year? Are consumables included? Is there a response-time commitment? What happens after hours? If the answers are vague, the contract will be too.
